This can determine if a lump in your neck is arising from your thyroid or a neighbouring structure. It can also assess any thyroid nodules to determine if they are benign or have more sinister features. If so, your Radiologist will suggest a referral for a thyroid nodule biopsy at a local hospital. If you are found to have any thyroid nodules, an ultrasound can also be used to check for any change in size of these nodules over time. This Neck ultrasound can also assess for parotid and submandibular gland swellings and assess any lymph node enlargements which may look suspicious.
Thyroid/ Neck Ultrasound Analysis–
Examines the thyroid gland for any sort of suspicious nodules and grades them with TI-RADS score and also looks for irregularities in the overall parenchyma. Further evaluation of the neck is done for any abnormal lymph nodes or suspicious looking masses.
