First, stay calm!
DO NOT have sex with your partner. If intercourse is unavoidable, use a condom.
Do you have any symptoms? Symptoms normally take 1-2 weeks to appear, but can sometimes occur within 2 days.
Non specific Urethritis (NGU), Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea and PID symptoms include burning or frequency of urination or a white/ yellow/ green discharge from your genitals or testicular pain or lower abdominal pain or pain/ bleeding during (or after) intercourse or bleeding in between your periods (or heavier periods than normal) with a high fever and vomiting.
Chlamydia and Gonorrhoea can also affect your rectum (after unprotected anal intercourse with discharge and pain), your throat ( after unprotected oral sex) or your eyes (red, painful and discharging).
If you do have some of the above symptoms, your GP may suggest that you start treatment early while you are waiting for your results to come back or if you are too early to have your tests done.

WHAT IF A TEST COMES BACK POSITIVE?
Please contact us straight away and book an appointment with a GP for treatment. If you have registered under a false name, you will need to register with your real name before treatment can be provided. You will also need to register your partner to have treatment provided for them too.
Depending on what you have contracted, the GP may suggest seeing a GUM clinic to have proper ‘Contact Tracing’ done or for further treatment which needs specialist input.
WHAT ABOUT RETESTING? HOW DO I KNOW I AM CURED?
Chlamydia
Wait 6 weeks before retesting.
Gonorrhoea
Retest 2 weeks after completing your treatment.
Trichomonas Vaginalis
Retesting usually not needed if you have taken your treatment properly. If not, or if you have become re-infected, then repeat testing or a new treatment regime may be necessary.
