A Doctors choice for an earlobe repair would always be a Plastic Surgeon (no other doctor would ever be considered!).
What is a Torn/ Split/ Expanded Earlobe?
An ear piercing may stretch over time, particularly if heavy earrings are worn, the piercing is placed too close to the rim or the piercings are caught on clothing. When a piercing stretches it may no longer be able to hold an earring and may become unsightly. A split earlobe is when this has progressed to completely split the earlobe in two. An expanded earlobe is one which has undergone expansion over time with a spacer. Your surgeon will be able to fully explain the techniques he will use in repairing your earlobe during the consultation.

Who is my Plastic Surgeon?
We think it’s vitally important that you know who your surgeon is and their training and qualifications. Many places offer surgical procedures with no details of who you would see or how experienced they are.
Here, at The GP Surgery, you will be operated on by Mr Masha Singh, who is a fully qualified London based Plastic Surgeon working in the NHS. Please feel free to see his biography page for further details. As you can see from his google reviews, all his patients have the utmost confidence in his ability.
Consultation
All patients will have a consultation with Mr Singh prior to any surgery being performed. Many people underestimate the intricacy of the surgery required to repair damaged earlobes, but each earlobe is unique in terms of its shape and the split or expansion. Mr Singh will describe in detail what can be achieved with surgery and how best to restore natural form to the earlobe. Following this, should you wish to proceed to surgery, we can normally perform this the same day.
How will my earlobe be repaired?
A local anaesthetic will be injected into the earlobe to make the repair pain free. You may eat and drink normally for this form of anaesthetic.
Every earlobe operation is unique and Mr Masha Singh will take time to assess your earlobe and discuss with you the best method of repair. The stitches used are non-dissolving on the skin surface and will need to be removed following the surgery, either with our nurse or your local NHS GP Practice Nurse.
What is the recovery like?
A layered dressing is applied to the operated area that usually allows washing over the area, this would stay in place until your wound check appointment around 2 weeks later, at which point your stitches can also be removed. The dressings are subtle in colour and made to stay in place with little maintenance needed during the 2 week period.
How long after surgery may I get re-pierced?
You will need to wait at least 2-3 months after surgery before re-piercing your earlobe. You should try to avoid re-piercing within the scar itself, it is best done on either side of the scar and far enough away from the rim of the earlobe so as not to pull through again in the future. Your surgeon can advise you on the specifics of this during your consultation.
