Our nurse will assess your ‘blocked ear’ and establish whether your ear canals are in fact full of wax and whether or not ear syringing is necessary.
Ear Wax Syringing preparation–
In order to maximize the benefit of ear syringing, we would advise that you buy and use some sodium bicarbonate ear drops or purified olive oil ear drops first. This will help to soften the wax first.
Please be aware that Sodium bicarbonate is much more effective, but can cause ear canal irritation. We would recommend trying Sodium bicarbonate ear drops first, and if it does irritate you, change to olive oil ear drops.
Put 2-3 drops into each ear (whilst lying on the opposite side) and stay like that for at least 5 minutes. Perform this procedure twice per day for at least 5 days before seeing the nurse. If you do not prepare your ear wax as described above, it may be too hard to syringe. The syringe pressure required carries the risk of perforating your eardrum. Hence, your nurse may have to refuse or delay your treatment, until your ear is prepared adequately.
