This is done if you suspect a blood clot in your leg veins. It can detect the presence of both recent and old thrombi. It checks for the deep veins of your femoral, popliteal and origins of the calf veins and patency of your vessels.
A DVT is a life threatening event and if you have a high clinical suspicion that you have a current DVT (that is, red swollen hot calf with pain +/- chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up blood or palpitations [especially if you have just been on a long distance flight/ journey or are post Surgery]) – PLEASE do not wait for a scan with us. Go straight to your local A&E department for a D-Dimer blood test and heparin injections.
As we cannot guarantee a scan will be done as an emergency on the same day, please only book with us if you are unsure as to whether you may have a DVT and you would like reassurance with a scan to exclude this.
